Win95 Connection Wizard - Connecting

To configure your Windows 95 PC (using the Internet Connection Wizard) for alpha dot net access, complete the following instructions.

Launch the connection wizard by clicking on Start and then selecting Programs – Internet Explorer – Internet Connection Wizard.

Click Next.

Select this option if you are accessing the Internet using an Internet service provider or loacl area network (LAN): Checked

Click Next.

Connect using my phone line: Checked

Click Next.

Create a new dial-up connection: Checked

Click Next.

Area code: 02
Telephone number: 82189000
Dial using the area code and country code: Unckecked

Cick Next.

User Name: yourusername
Password: yourpassword

Click Next.

Do you want to change the advanced setting for this connection?
Yes: Checked

Click Next.

What kind of connection do you have?
PPP (Point to Point Protocol): Checked

Click Next.

What type of logon procedure does your Internet service provider require?
I don't need to type anything when logging on: Checked

Click Next.

What Internet Protocol (IP) address do you use?
My Internet service provider automatically assigns me one: Checked

Click Next.

Always use the following: Checked
DNS Server: 203.41.44 20
Alternate DNS server: 203.41.220.30

Click Next.

Connection name: alpha dot net
You can name this anything you like but we suggest alpha dot net for easy reference later.

Click Next.

Do you want to set up an Internet email account now?
Yes: Checked

Click Next.

Display name: Your Name

Click Next.

E-mail address: yourusername@alpha.net.au

Click Next.

My incoming mail server is a POP3 server. Type the name of your incoming mail server.
Incoming mail (POP3 or IMAP) server: mail.alpha.net.au
Outgoing mail (SMTP) server: mail.alpha.net.au

Click Next.

Log on using: Checked
Pop account name: yourusername
Password: yourpassword

Click Next.

Internet mail account name: alpha dot net mail
You can name this anything you like but we suggest alpha dot net mail for easy reference later.

Click Next.

Do you want to set up an Internet news account now?
Yes: Checked

Click Next.

Display name: Your Name

Click Next.

E-mail address: yourusername@alpha.net.au

Click Next.

News (NNTP) server: news.alpha.net.au

Click Next.

Internet news account name: alpha dot net newsgroups

Click Next.

Do you want to set up your Internet directory service account?
No: Checked

Click Next.

The computer should now prompt you to restart. (If it doesn't, close the Control Panel then click the Start button, select Shut Down, then select Restart).

Your Windows 95 configuration is now complete.

USERNAMES & PASSWORDS
Usernames and passwords are case sensitive (MYusername is different to myusername, myPassword is different to mypassword) and should contain no spaces. Be sure your "CapsLock" is not on when typing them. These not only identify you to us as clients, but they are vital to your security for email and connectivity. Always keep your password stored in a secure place.
