Netscape 4.7 - Email & Newsgroup Setup

To configure Netscape 4.7 for alpha dot net email and newsgroup access, complete the following instructions.

Important: Be sure you have already configured your Windows Operation System to connect to alpha. For instructions see the main PC Setup page – Connect To Us.

From the Netscape menu click Edit and select Preferences.

In Category, click Mail & Newsgroups – Identity. Configure as follows.

Your Name: Your Name
Email address: yourusernname@alpha.net.au

Optional:
Organisation: Your Company Name
Signature File: Click Choose and navigate to a plain text file with some text you'd like to have included at the end of each email.

Click Mail Servers (in Category on the left).

Outgoing mail (SMTP) server: mail.alpha.net.au
Outgoing mail server username: yourusername

Incoming Mail Servers – click Add.
Note: If there is an existing mail configuration, select it by clicking on it and click Edit.

Server Name: mail.alpha.net.au
Server Type: POP3 Server
User Name: yourusername
Remember password: Checked
Note: Checking Remember password means you wont have to type your password everytime you check your mail. Although, Netscape will ask for your password the first time.

Click OK.

Click Newsgroup Servers (in Category on the left).

Click Add.

Server: news.alpha.net.au
Port: 119
Always use name and password: Checked

Click OK.

Click OK in the main Preferences window to close Preferences.

Your Netscape 4.7 email and newsgroup setup is now complete.

USERNAMES & PASSWORDS
Usernames and passwords are case sensitive (MYusername is different to myusername, myPassword is different to mypassword) and should contain no spaces. Be sure your "CapsLock" is not on when typing them. These not only identify you to us as clients, but they are vital to your security for email and connectivity. Always keep your password stored in a secure place.
