Internet Explorer 4.5 - Setup

To configure Internet Explorer 4.5 for alpha dot net access, complete the following instructions.

Important: Be sure you have already configured your Mac to connect to alpha. For instructions see the main Mac Setup page – Connect To Us.

Launch Internet Explorer 5 by double-clicking it's icon.

From the menu at the top of your screen select Edit – Preferences.

From the menu select Network – Proxies.

In the Use Proxy Servers window configure as follows.

Web Proxy: squid.alpha.net.au
Use Web Proxy for all: Checked

Click Settings.

Address: squid.alpha.net.au
Port: 8080
Method: Normal
User Name: yourusername
Password: yourpassword

Click OK and then OK again to close the Preferences window.

Your IE 4.5 Setup is now complete.

You can now enter a Web address (URL) — www.somewhere.com — (for example www.google.com for searching the Web) and press your Return key.
Note: You need to have already setup your connection to alpha dot net – see the Connect To Us options below.

USERNAMES & PASSWORDS
Usernames and passwords are case sensitive (MYusername is different to myusername, myPassword is different to mypassword) and should contain no spaces. Be sure your "CapsLock" is not on when typing them. These not only identify you to us as clients, but they are vital to your security for email and connectivity. Always keep your password stored in a secure place.
